Hi,

I'd just like to say - ignore people who don't know anything about Taiwan and would prefer to go to places like Thailand for very special and sad reasons (not to enjoy the culture).

Now to answer your question:

- Yes, it's very worth it!

- It will cost between 500 - 600NT (if your a student bring your ID as you will get a reduction).

- It's still the tallest building in the world, you should go up it while you can. If you wait a few years then you'll have to go to Saudie Arabia to get to the tallest building.

- The lift is increadibly fast but so smooth you hardly feel the assent (37 seconds)!

VITAL INFO:

- Go up the 101 at about 4:30 - 5pm so you can see the day view, then the sun set. Give it about 45 mins, enjoy the views, check out the new restaurant up there then guess what, you'll be able to see the night view (2 for the price of 1)!

Taipei 101 is pretty impressive to look at, but not much to do there. There is a mall filled with overpriced clothes. You can take the elevator up and look at the city. The view is amazing. And when you get home, everyone's going to ask if you went anyway, so at least you can say you went.
There are many other things to do and see while you're here. I have put a couple of links below for you to look at. If you see anything that you feel is interesting, you can post again and someone is sure to have some info on it. Make sure that you get a tourist map when you arrive. The maps here are quite good, and will point out a lot of interesting stuff. They will even tell you what district of the city has what kind of shopping.

Also check out the links on this page. You might find some interesting stuff.

This is a pretty good page for tourists.

I don't know if this page will help. It is for foreigners who live and work in Taiwan.

Have fun.

I figure you should visit it so you can at least say you saw the tallest building in the world while you are in country.

I am surprised at the negativity a lot of people have towards Taiwan.

The facts are that Taipei 101 is an engineering and architectural masterpiece of design. I wouldnt say that it is too expensive, but it isnt cheap. You pay a bit (like ~700NTish for about $20 USD for 2 people) to get up to the 89th floor observation deck, on the 'fastest elevator in the world' (it is fast! like less than 1 minute ride up- its cool enough on its own!) and from there you can purchase another ticket (100NT ish I think) to walk up the stairs to the open-air roof if weather conditions allow if you are paranoid and think it is just really good LCD wallsize displays to trick you. I went in daytime to the top and it was pretty cool.

Great views of Taipei city and area to be had. I liked it when I went at night the first time and when I went again with my parents they liked it quite alot for daytime.

If its cloudy up top it probably isnt worth it. When you get that high clouds like to stick to you I guess. The ticket people will mention this to you. You also get a coupon for an ice cream. If you dont like high places or get vertigo dont go. Double check the prices my memory is crap.

Hi, I've been up to Taipei 101, and yes, you could try that. The fee, I remember is around 300~400 NT$. This translates to around 10~11 USD. However, make sure that you're going up there on a clear sunny day. No kidding. I was up there once on this bad day, and all we could see are the clouds: visibility was bad. Even some of the tourists were complaining about it.

To add to your excitement, Taipei 101 currently has the fastest elevator in the world. It also contains the worlds largest tuned mass dampers (a damper is actually a big ball installed in 101 to lessen the effects of earthquakes and strong winds that beat against the tower.)

Hi,
It's worth a trip , the view is really great on a clear day, Dont go up on a Rainy/cloudy day. It costs NTD350/- (USD10-) per head to visit the 89th floor Observatory. You can pay another NTD100 to go up to the 91 floor open air area but thats not worth is as it is surrounded by too much Security wires.

They always have some sort of Exhibition up there Mainly to do with Arts and Craft, some of which is really interesting. Last exhibit there was Madame Tussauds Hong Kong.

It's well worth the visit if you take your time and read the information on the 101 during your self guided tour. I would avoid a cloudy day if you want to take photographs or see the view.

It is currently the tallest building in the world until the one in Dubai is completed.

Yes do it - before it falls down.
Its been built right next to a geological fault right across the island. One quake and its twin towers all over again.
