I have herd this term before and i know it has to do with the exaust. What sort of sound would m car meake if it has a cracked header. What will happen if I drive on a cracked header. Thanks for your help

The header takes the exhaust out of the cylinder and transfers it to the exhaust system. With many cars (especially older ones) you can visually inspect the headers, they are on either side of the engine and are attached to it.

If it's the header, normally a high pitch sound, almost like a pinging or like someone is banging on a steel block with a wrench in rapid succession, and usually pretty loud. Towards the back of the exhaust it becomes a deeper rumble, but near the engine it's much more metallic like sounding.
Joker is right, it does sound kinda like "vit a vit a vit a ... "

the only thing that would happen would be you would make a loud ticking noise, look under the hood of the car while running and see if the header pipes have a crack in one of them, should be easy to tell and see if thats the problem.

a cracked header gives you a raw exhaust noise rather than the tuned noise out of the tail pipe. this annoying noise when found by police will be ticketed if found to be above certain DB's

Cracked header sounds almost like loud knock, if small crack more like ticking that may go away as motor heats.

Im no mechanic but I believe if the heads are cracked it will rumble, like a growl noise. Also, this could be a cooling issue, have this check as soon as possilbe.

i use a carbon monoxide detector //the type u buy at home depot all u have to do is get it close to one side// if header is cracked it will set off the detector// it could be gaskets//godbless//goodluck

well you can tell if your header is cracked is if you see exhaust fumes coming from/near the header or if your car sounds usaully louder than wat it is. but before replacing it you might want to see if you have a leak and you might just have to buy new gasket

You would leak oil a lot and probably have black smoke coming from the exhaust. Driving too long like this will inevitably blow up your motor.

It sounds like vit a vit a vit a vit coming out of your motor. It will give you a Tuma.
