Odds are what you're eating are hybrid seeds. If you plant a hybrid seed you might get a growth, but it wont be a real plant and produce new fruit. Almost all seed today is engineered. What you are eating is genetically bred and not just a natural seed. Most people are unaware of that.

Heirloom seeds are what you are looking for. These are naturally grown and crossbred. That means they grow different types and there is cross pollination (a natural occurance)


Google it and you'll find catalogs and internet sites where you can order them.

You didn't specify what you were going to do with the seeds.
Therefore, whether planting or using them for seasoning do
the following:
Cut the pepper open.
Extract the seeds onto a flat surface and let them dry.
This may take several days.
If they are damp when you store them, they will rot.
Plant when the season is right, or store in a marked container.
