Because the dots take up less room. It may look otherwise, but it's true.
Yahoo is NOT deliberatly doing it incorrectly. It's just part of the program.
Go to any other wesite, and it'll do the same!

Because you only need one ellipsis for everybody. If they included the last letter it would make the name field larger for everybody, and would take more memory.
