a name is announced. Last week the guy who won skating on ice wanted to say something but was told that the programme was out of time. I found that to be very offensive after the presenters had wasted so much air time. I was more interested in what he would have said instead of having to put up with huge gaps of silence.

THEY call it "dramatic effect" - WE call it bloody annoying ! ! !

They do it for suspense, but because they do it on every single show that has a winner it just becomes annoying, especially when they say ''we will find out after the break''. I understand it makes it more dramatic so they get a bigger reaction from the winner but it just takes too long. We all it expect it so it would be a bigger shock if they just announced who it was.

Because they know that a bunch of people who are watching just want to know who the winners are, and if they were to announce the winners right at the beginning, people might not watch the whole show, and then their ratings will go down. So they waste a bunch of time, stringing people along, so they'll watch the whole thing.

They think it's dramatic, but since they all do it all of the time, it's not.

I really don't understand because every other show and commercial are what I call "short attention span theater." They jump from one shot to another every two seconds. How are you supposed to follow anything when the camera angle changes every few seconds?

That's not directing.

If the latest shows are anything to go by, it is to give the officials time to sort themselves out after making a c0ck up

Its for suspense. They do it sometime on shows (like Idol) before a comercial, so you will have to watch the advertisement before you find out who won.
