I Really want to graduate, in the top ten percentile of my school, I'm alreay in it but, I don't no how to maintain in it. I mean next year. there'll be people in my grade taking ap classes(tenth grade) and I don't plan on taking any untill 11 grade. Any tips. Also, how do you become an honor speaker, cause I'd really like to give a speech at my graduation (2010), but don't really care to work hard enough to graduate top 3. Please, some advice would be nice.

It's good to have goals! However, I would say that it is more important to think of your long-term needs, like what you need to go to college. Yes, AP courses are good to take but not just because they give a boost to your GPA. They prepare you for college and give you credit for college courses!

Many years ago when I graduated from high school, I was at the top of my class but I didn't make it to the top 2% like I had wanted. I was the next person (something like the 2.1 %). Anyway, some of the people who beat me had taken easy courses to boost their GPAs but I was probably more prepared for college than they were. I know that many have gone on to college (good colleges) but others didn't. Now, many years later, I can tell you personally such a minute difference in GPA and class rank did not affect me in any way. I have several post-graduate degrees!!!

Make learning your objective. As I say that, I am aware that this advice may be a bit erroneous for those who live in Texas. Unfortunately, the state (as in the state universities) will automatically admit any student who is in the top 10%. In this case, I would do anything to get into the 10%. I have mixed feeling about this criteria but that's just how it is.

Just work hard and learn. Sometimes this means putting in extra effort and studying more. Some students, even very good high school students, don't know how to study. It is best to take some time every day to study. I would say an hour or even two. Don't just study when you have homework. Go over your readings, class notes, and any handouts the teacher has given you. Don't cram for tests. This may work at times but it usually doesn't. Make a list of the work that you have to do so that you don't forget to do a homework assignment. That one missed assignment might make the difference between getting one grade and getting a higher one.

Good luck!

You need to keep challenging yourself and that is by taking the TOP (AP courses) throughout your high school years all the way into the twelfth grade. If your peers are taking these courses and keeping up their GPA and QPA then most likely you need to do the same thing and be better at it to stay within that 10%. If you want to become an honor speaker you have to be either valedictorian or valedictorian salute and those are Nos. 1 and 2 in the entire graduation class who 9 times out of 10 took all AP and Honors courses throughout.

all I can say since I graduated high school between a 3.2 and 3.5 is to work hard and usually the validictorian and the salutatorian are picked by the graduating class with the highest and second highest GPA in the class. Just work hard and stay focused
