Sitting here watching "Monster House" and was wondering who pays for the home improvements that the residents have done. Its usually quite extensive.

Many of those shows are sponsored by companies who sell pipes,wall paper,paint,hardware products. Not only do they pay a fee,but the show allows their company name to be shown or said during the show.

Have you ever noticed how prominantly they display the tools they use, and all the 'long slow pans' to show the Prize tool kits at the end, that amounts to free commercials for the tools, plus you add in ad revenue from the actual commercials

every time they install a hot tub or a bbq grill they take great pains to make sure we know who provided the item.

The production company that makes the show pays the contractors and materials. The network pays the production company to license the show. Advertisers pay the network to insert their commercials during breaks in the show. Consumers pay for the advertising when they buy the product.
