Thats a hard one

Personally ten is far to early to be needing a laptop.

There are issues of maintaining a "healthy" laptop, as well as upgrading, learning how to use the laptop and protecting it from damage.

At the age of ten - correct me if I am wrong, is that most likely usage is going to be:

Surf online
Play games
Instant message

Most parents would be happy to produce a laptop for school work and educational purposes, but again at ten this is very unlikely.

My advise would be to wait it out for a bit, and get a really good laptop when you really need it.
