Atmosphere is the general name for a layer of gases that may surround a material body of sufficient mass.[1] The gases are attracted by the gravity of the body, and are retained for a longer duration if gravity is high and the atmosphere's temperature is low.

Weather is a term that encompasses phenomena in the atmosphere of a planet. The term usually refers the activity of these phenomena over short periods, such as hours or days. Average atmospheric conditions over significantly longer periods of time is known as climate.

Weather is the the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place.

Climate (from ancient Greek: κλίμα, "Clime") is commonly defined as the weather averaged over a long period of time. For practical uses the standard averaging period is 30 years, but other periods may be used depending on the purpose.
