Well, we are experimenting with all of this nuclear technology, so there is a very good chance that we will either blow ourselves up, or countries will blow each other up. Or, global warming could go too far, and the climate will at the very least become inhabitable for human beings, and survival will be impossible. Another possibility is the explosion of the sun, which will happen in about 5 billion years, completely engulfing most or all of the solar system. Another theory the the collision of our galaxy with Andromeda, and either we would be in the middle of it and a huge firey crash, or we would be farther away from it and be spun off into deep space. A fifth possibility is the black hole in the center of our galaxy awakening and the whole galaxy would be sucked inside. Chances are that none of this will hapen in our lifetimes, except for global warming, which is a very real possibility. The black hole theory is also possible, because it could awaken at any time, without warning. However it will most likely be a while before that happens.

The Earth has a bunch of scenarios for its demise:

I guess to answer that question we'd have to go back to the beginning of time...

#1) IF everything started from a "Big Bang" (or singularity) and the Universe is expanding as we speak and the amount of energy in the universe is finite. Eventually all the stars will use up their hydrogen; burn off or blow up, or become black holes...everything will freeze and life will cease to exist as we know it. (That is the scaled down quick version, I'm leaving out a lot of detail).

#2) Again, going with the Big Bang...everything (the universe) will eventually stop expanding from the point of origin and slow down to the point where the process may reverse itself. This process would take an inconceiveable amount of time. The universe would then begin to contract and basically implode upon itself.

#3) Forget the universe and just look at our solar system. Our sun is about 5 billion years old and maybe has another 5 billion years of life left in it. The sun could go nova and vaporize the entire solar system. Or...could turn into a red giant as it burns off its fuel and cook the earth. Mercury & Venus would be engulfed by the sun. There's more possiblities for what could happen to the sun.

#4) We annihilate ourselfs with nukes, but the earth is left here and some other form of life will dominate the planet long after we're gone.

#5) A big rock will hit the earth and human life will end...at which point do we care what happens to the earth?

There are all kinds of theories out there...good luck in your quest for knowledge.

The earth will end as we know it when the sun expands into a red giant engulfing the planet.. As far as the human race' I believe we will all be taken out by a virus, mechanical or organic.

We'll pollute the water table and air to the point where it almost can't be repaired or can't be repaired, then we'll use up all the oil and they'll be fighting and wars over the remaing reserves. There will be more people than the food table and support and there will be wars over farmland and food supplies. Nukes will spread to many nations and even individuals who will use them. We'll have genetic experiments that backfire and create an AIDS type virus that is airborn. The sky will be dark, the rivers polluted, people fighting each other dying from viral diseases. There will be Earthquakes, volcanos.

Then God will come and pick the best to take off the Earth and leave the rest behind to wallow in their own mire.

Some say the world will end in fire, some say ice
Judging from desire I tend to hold with those who favor fire
But if I had to live twice I would say that ending in ice
Is equally bad, and would suffice.

The earth will end when the sun scorches it to a tiny little chunk of ash. We'll be long dead or on another planet by then as would everything else on the earth. So yeah, Fire Fire Fire.

the sun will expand and burn the earth, but as far as the human race technology will out perform humans and we would be considered obsolete, if they did have a nuclear war there will always be survivors and this is a fact even with disease

Some say the world will end in fire,
Others say, in ice.
I hold with those who favor fire,
But ice is nice and would suffice.
