I haven't seen the director's cut, I'm sorry.

Cameron got accolades from the Discovery Channel, The History Channel etc... for his exceptional job in catching the absolute authenticity of exactly what transpired on Titanic, (obviously not including the main characters).

The footage at the beginning of the movie of the camera going along the ship is actual.

Well aside from the fact that Cameron's Jack and Rose weren't real people on the Titanic, I think he's pretty much captured the essence of the characters. Most of the characters in the movie (i.e. Bruce Ismay, Captain Smith, Thomas Andrews, Molly Brown, are all real people.) I visited a Titanic (ship, not movie) museum in my area and everything I read about these people and other miscellaneous passengers on the ship, Cameron had dead on.

No, I don't think there will be another movie to show real life like details of experience of the Titanic.
