I got a 62 percent as a final grade in English. The teacher told me that I needed a 54 percent on the final to pass. A pass for my English class in a 60 percent. Which means that I passed. And the final was 30 percent of my mark. What mark did I get on the final? If possible, What was my mark before the final?

If you need a 54 percent to pass, that means your grade would look something like this. 70%x + 30%(54) = 60. When we solve for x, we get x = (60 - 0.3(54))/0.7.

x = 62.5714. This was your mark before the final. If you got a 62 percent as a final grade, then you got on your final this:

70%62.5714 + 30%x = 62. now we solve for x, and we get x= (62- 0.7(62.5714)/0.3.
x= (62 - 43.8)/0.3
x= 60.666666666667 for final.

Results: a) Your final you got 60.6666666667 percent
b) Your mark before the final was 62.5714 percent

Figuring out this type of thing got me through university. Well at least figuring out what i needed on a final to pass then assumed that everything else was bonus.

Your teacher said you need to get 54% on the final to pass (a 60%). So first we will figure out what a 54% of 30 is (final is worth 30%).

0.54 x 30 = 16.2 (we will use 16).
You needed 16 out of 30 to get a 60%.

This means that you had 60 - 16 on the term. Your term mark was 44 out of 70 or 62.8% ---> (44/70)x100

Now you got a 62% final and you had 44/70 on the term. Therefore, on the final you got 62 - 44 (final mark - term mark). This means you got 18 out of 30 on the final. This is a 60%. Congratulations you not only passed the course you also passed the final.

If you know what the final was out of you can multiply (0.60 x final total marks) to find out approximatly what you got on the final.

Usually I would write this down but I didnt. However, I think my logic is correct. Hope this helps. Good luck in the rest of your schooling

suppose full mark is 100
final was 30 percent therefore 30 marks.
you needed 54 percent of 30 which is 16. so you got minimum 16 on your final.
now lets go further. your teacher told you to get 54% (16 marks )to pass - to get 60 for your english class. therefore your points before were 60 - 16 = 44 (but for that time full mark was 70) therefore you had 70/44*100 = 62.85%.
On your final you got 18.

Let's see if I can help with this.
consider your grade (G) is made up of pts from homework, quizzes, tests, and your final.
G=HW+Q+Final=100%
and we know the final is worth 30% so,
100-30=70 would be a perfect score on all other classwork, (not always possible).
for you the equation looks like this
A'sG=(HW+Q) +Final =60 (to pass)
what you are looking for is 54% of 30points.
We'll call it points here knowing that means percentage points.
(the math translation for this question is)
.54*30=16.2
that is how many percentage pts you needed on your exam to pass the class.
look at the grade equation again.
A'sG=(HW+Q) +Final =60 (to pass)
so, but you ended with 62 (good job)
(HW+Q)=60-Final=60 - 16.2=43.8
is what your grade was before the final.
now to find your final grade, we make the
equation again and substitute in the values we know to solve for Final
A'sG=(HW+Q) +Final =62 (course grade)
Final =62 - (HW+Q)= 62 - 43.8 =18.2
so, you earned 18.2 percentage pts on your final .
to find the score on your final,
we now take the percentage pts you earned and divide them by the percentage pts the final was worth to get the score for your final
Final score= 18.2/30= .606
multiply that by 100 and you earned 60.6 ,
which can be rounded to 61% on your final
congratulations

Final grade in English: 62%.

Required 54% on the final to pass.
Passing grade = 60%

English course:
Final: 30%
Other: 70%

In order to require 54% on the final to pass, 54% of 30 is equal to 16.2.

If you required 16.2 to pass, it follows that your grade must have been 60 - 16.2 = 43.8, or

43.8 / 70, which is equal to approximately 62.57%

Your mark before the final was approximately 62.57%
The mark you must have gotten on your final must have been
62 - 43.8 = 18.2. Put this over 30:
18.2/30, or approximately 60.67%

The weight is 70% pre-exam, P and 30% exam, E

You were told you needed 54% to get a pass overall

0.7*P + 0.3*54 =60

Rearranging shows you had

P = (60 - 0.3*54)/0.7 = 62.57% pre-exam.

so 0.7*62.57 + 0.3*E = 62

E = (62 - 0.7*62.57)/0.3 = 60.67% in the exam.

You were pretty consistent!
