connecting my laptop to the tv, problems?

i connected my laptop to the tv by using an s-video cable, but for some reason the video files on my winodows media player wont show on the tv, but it would on the laptop. plz help

With laptop and TV connected, select TV as primary monitor to view desktop and mouse pointer on TV. Then click on media player icon.
