Yes and no.

If you just want to have a fun read, then by all means yes!

Harry Potter books, for all their length, are extremely entertaining - pretty much everyone burns through them in one, two, or three sittings. And we can never get enough of the fun.

If you're asking from a literary point of view, then no.

J.K. Rowling is not exactly Nobel Prize for Literature material. You definitely won't find her books being studied by Harvard English majors or AP English students as course work. Why? 'Cause from a purely academic standpoint, it's not quality writing. If you want quality writing, the sort that English professors rave over, look to John Steinbeck or Thomas Hardy or any other famous classic author you've heard of.

If you're asking from a religious point of view, then it depends.

I'm a Christian, but I've read J.K. Rowling's books and it hasn't done me any visible harm. I don't have a broomstick stowed away, and I have not experienced any sudden desires to perform witchcraft yet (Have any of you? LOL). Unless you think that your faith cannot endure fictional witches, wizards, and ghouls (or if it goes against your beliefs), feel free to read away.

u should definately read it! it is a magnificent series. i have personally read all of them.
it really does not matter about the whole contravercy over whether it goes against the bible and all that because it is simply a fictional novel.
also u may not understand the movies entirely if you have not attained the knowlage from the best selling novel.
and harry, ron, hermione, fred, george, cho... the are all characters that i find are easy to relate to. other than the evil voldemort thing they have normal problems like asking a girl out or people not liking u because u are smarter than they are and italso deals with a little racism between the purebloods and the mudbloods.
harry is an awesome dude seeing what he goes through.
it is mysterious and a real page turner.

ANYONE should read this book!

I think you should definitely at least give the first book a shot. Than you can decide for yourself whether you like it or not! Regardless, you win in the end, because if you like it you will have found a wonderful set of books to immerse yourself into, and if not, you will have solid evidence as to why this not something you liked. I believe in trying everything once, and it has opened my eyes to things that I never thought I would like, including the Harry Potter books. I'm not a huge fantasy/sci-fi fan so I thought the combination with "children's book" was kind of hooky at first until I read it. I have secretly wished to be a student at Hogwarts ever since. ;)

The books are definatly way better than the films if you've seen them. Personally i think they are definatly worth reading. But you have almost be determined to read them, because you see, otherwise you might not like the first chapter of the first book, but it does get better. Even if you don't like the first book, nobody can deny that the plot has been put together very well. Well, my parents hate the books, but they can't say that the plot isn't good. The books took JKR a lot of planning. I would try the first book and just see whether or not you like her style of writing. And if you don't, then you don't have to read on. Compared to the films, the books are amazing. But everything else is there, it's whether or not you like the style of writing, or themes of the book

Well if you have the patience to actually read the books go for it! Me i just wait for the movies to come out . . . except on the last book when it comes to my store i'm gonna read the last few chapters just to see what happens LOL!

But if you were asking because of religious reasons, i say please there is too much stuff in this world that the church needs to look at instead of thinking harry potter is the devil! I mean they need to stop the pedifiling priests before they go after harry!

Read it from your library. Read, as well as see the movies so that you get a better understanding of the Harry Potter universe.

I didn't really like Harry Potter, but then again, I have never been ahuge fantasy person to begin with. If you like fantasy, then I have heard that it is actually pretty good.
