Either it coming or not does not matter. The one that matters is are we prepared. For example, let say a huge asteroid is coming on a direct hit on earth in 2017 about 10 years from now, can we make it. Would we try to destroy the asteroid or instead some small group of people will get away from the planet (mostly politician & bilionaires) and leave others to die. I think if the second one have higher possibility especially in desperate situation.

Yes it is true. In about 30 years this should happen. But calm down, scientists have got it covered. The will create a magnifying glass that is large. Next they will magnify the sun to the astroid. This will throw the astroid off course.

yes, sometime in the next 200-300 thousand years we will probably have a significant astroid impact the earth. I think the one you heard about was found to be on a near-miss orbit. But there are others out there that have not been found....

No, we just learned about this in my Astronomy class. Astroids are always being said that they are going to hit the earth, but then after later detailed inspection, it turns out they will miss by about one million light years or something. Now they use a scale that basically tells you how much danger we are in.

Sorry but no. You'll have to worry about something else in the near future. There was some talk about 2036/2038 but that's been reduced to a probablity close to zero. The next closest date that I've read about in the journals is 2880.
