I felt that way too, also I was a little disappointed with the last book in the Dark Tower series, having loved the preceding 6, but having a book that lets the 'constant reader' participate in the book's ending is also a clever literary device. One thing I do like about Stephen King is the way a lot of his books do tie into eachother, for example, Dolores Claiborne and Gerald's Game; Insomnia and The Dark Tower, and a few others.)0(

No, it didn't put me off, I read the uncut version too. That's the thing with Stephen King books. You can never quite guess what he is going to do - I loved The Stand and it's one of the few things that they have turned into film that has been well done. I thought the ending was perfect, especially if you have read all of his other books. I think it's a brave move not to tie up loose ends and leave the readers to use their own imagination. A lot of films and TV shows from the US feel that they have to tie up all loose ends and sometimes it makes me feel like these people think we are all stupid.

I listened to it at work (book on tape) and was very disappointed because I expected more after putting in so many hours listening. It held my interest minimally throughout the book and I kept at it because I expected that it would pull together in the end. It didn't (for me). Maybe someone else has some greater understanding of the point of the book.

Not much magic in Stephen King's stuff, so no Gandalf to come in on an eagle.
I wouldn't say King's stuff is all horror, more like a stomach punch.
I thought it ended the only it could.

I am going to try to read it soon. I tried when I was much younger and it was boring to me then but i'm going to try again. Hey have you read the dark tower series?? Or Insomnia? these books and a few others tie into each other in really cool ways, also the second story in Hearts In Atlantis, and these ones, ESPECIALLY Insomnia, are AWESOME!!! i know this wasnt your question but im going to read the stand soon.

Stephen King is okay but I don't like his stuff. He is a tad like Harlan Ellison letting evil win too many times. So I wasn't that enthused about watching this tv movie however any story where the bad guys don't win is great story in my opinion ;-)

I agree. The whole "hand of God" thing was a let down. King creates amazing stories but he struggles with endings.
