I know there's an obvious difference in price and how the stone is created, but is there any other difference?

The guy above me is wrong.

Synthetic means that it is lab made. It has all of the same properties as a real one, it even has the same hardness (meaning they BOTH could cut glass) and chemical composition. Genuine means they come out of the ground, the are naturally made, not man made.

Jeremy is indeed correct.

"Laboratory grown synthetic gemstones have essentially the same appearance and optical, physical, and chemical properties as the natural material that they represent."

That's according to the USGS. The only difference is price.
