It doesn't shut down, it goes into 'hibernating mode' , I hate it too ! Mine did the exact same thing,it does this to save the battery. Like if you haven't been typing at it or using it for some time it will go into hibernating mode and you have to press the power button for it to resume where it left off.

You can fix this easily. Go into my computer -> control panel -> Power options -> across the top click the hibernate tab. Uncheck the enable hibernate mode. Next go into the advance tab. You can select if you want your computer to go into standby mode when you close the lid, press the power button, or hit the sleep button. After that go into the power schemes tab. Here you can adjust how long your laptop can be inactive before it goes into a power saving mode. You can completely disable this if you like. Hit ok after you are all done and you are all set to go.

check for a virus. defrag the laptop and unload temp files and cookies

maybe u have a virus
download avg anti-virus.spyware and scan ur computer
