The sequence would be Freeview box into mains, into TV and with an aerial connected to it. That's it - disconnect the cable whilst using the F/V unless your TV has more than one input - OH DEAR - I JUST READ YOUR QUESTION PROPERLY and I'm sorry, but a F/V box is useless with cable - it needs the correct signal to work. SORRY ABOUT THAT ! ! !

A Freeview box won't work with cable.

The cable lines are shielded from signals in the air to prevent ghosting on your TV and leakage into the air. the only way that the cable lines will work it to hook them up to an antenna of some sort to grab the signal out of the air.

you can plug a normal Ariel in to it and it will pick up most Chanel's, if you want all of them then you will have to pay for a nice big aerial to put in the loft.
