There's a 'screaming skull' on a shelf behind the bar at the Pack Horse Inn at Affetside, near Bolton, Lancashire.
It's the skull of George Whewell who executed Lord Derby in Bolton during the English Civil War. I've never heard it scream but it is reputed to do so if removed from the bar.

The skulls are still there, but common sense appears to have silenced them. After all they don`t really scream do they !
