Rock boots are safer than sneakers, flipflops, and pink fuzzy slippers. But that's like wearing a baseball cap for a helmet.

I suggest that you choose safety over fashion when riding.

As with any footwear made for a specific purpose, motorcycle boots (or high-ankle steel-toed workboots) are the best footwear for motorcycle riding.

Ride safe!

Any style leather boots would be better protection than sneakers and sandals that I see alot of riders wearing. A good quality riding boots will protect your shins from rocks flying up from the vehicles in front of you. They are usually padded in the front. Since they are specifically made for motorcycles they will also be padded at the top where the shifter is to protect they boot from excessive wear and tear. You won't go wrong with buying the right pair of boots for the right activity, you will find the will out last other boots and also keep your feet warm and dry when it is raining. Nothing is more miserable than riding while wet and cold!

You can wear them but I wouldn't think you would have much upper protection. If a rock hits the top of your foot, its going to hurt. I've had rocks hit my feet at 70 and it still hurt for a day.

No knowing the style, I would think the ankle proctection would be limited as well.

I've seen people wear flip-flops and tennis shoes on a bike, not very smart but its their feet.
