Why do people in England drive on the right?

Actually people in England drive on othe left - the sterring wheel is on the right.

In the beginning of automobile manufacture, most cars had central drive. At some point, as numbers of cars increased, a decision had to be made about priority - right of way - a standard that would apply to the whole industry. As it happened, in England the manufacturers who put drive on the right won out - in the American, on the left. No special reason, that's just how it was.

I think people in England drive on the left and their steering wheel is on the right. And response to that would be because it's easier to change the roads than to change the minds of car makers.

They drive on the left. The reason, I was told, is that traditionally knights traveled on the left side of the road so that their lance would be in their right hand and facing those approaching on the road.

The Japanese do to and most of the UK but Canada does not..?? It is a mystery that baffles me like why only three countries have not adopted to the Metric system..and the other two are not major players

you can add Australia to the list,we drive on the left and have steering wheel on the right-we also have the metric system

it is because of their weirdness and bad teeth. it makes them incapible to drive on the left like everyone here in America

So it remained from old times..they are used to it from generation to generation..it is a country that had vehicles..there was aristocracy there ...thay had cars...
