In Great Britain we have the National Health Services which provides free health care for everyone regardless of their income. I'm just want to know whether the US does provide such a service.

Absolutely! I've only heard about it, as I live in a land Down Under,& though weighting lists are long etc, we have it pretty good in comparison to America's health system - or lack thereof.

It's amazing how the first 3 people who answered don't understand your question.
"The poor have free healthcare" - that's BS.
You have to be dirt poor to get free healthcare. I know of people who have had their healthcare axed because they got a full time job, even if its a $10/hour job in NYC (it's tough to survive on $10/hr in NYC btw); this is one of the reasons many Americans work multiple jobs.
The problem is that healthcare is seen as a competitve business here in the U.S. - and that's just wrong.
It's people's lives, not enterprise.
Many U.S. kids on their way to college say they want to become doctors because "doctors make a lot of money"; very rarely they say its because they want to help society.
And what's even more amazing is that the pro-private healthcare people don't see (or refuse to see) America's poor health compared to other industrialized nations.

OK, every working American has a large portion of taxes taken out of their paychecks that goes towards various things, one of which pays for health insurance to lower income/poor people. So to answer your question, yes some people do get free health care here along with free food, free rent ,etc..... it's all paid for by working class citizens.

The United States is so backward and yes, 'third world' when it comes to its Healthcare issues.

It is unfathomable to me that one of the wealthiest/strongest countries in the world is unable and as it seems to me, unwilling to provide healthcare across the board to it's citizens. Instead, they're too concerned in aiding other countries rather than take care of their own.

It's a shame when our senior citizens have to cross the border into Canada to receive low cost prescriptions without breaking the bank.

It makes me sick.

And yes, I'm an American, I love my country but I don't have to agree with everything...I cannot WAIT until the election in '08!

The very poor have free health care. The taxpayers pay for that.

No, we do not have a national health care system. But if you think it's "free", you're sadly mistaken. Just look at your taxes!
