actually if you hit the chalk it is still fair unless it goes out before it hits the firstbase or thirdbase when going to the outffield...and if you even noticed the foul poles are in fair play so if the pole is hit it is a homerun because most of the poles are tall enough that if hit the ball will most likely have gone over any wall in the majors

If you were to stand at home plate and look down either foul line, the "foul pole" is actually in fair territory. Why they call it the foul pole? Maybe it just sounds better than the fair pole? Or just a choice someone made years ago when people had a little different pattern of thought. Either way, if it hits the pole down the foul line, it is fair. I think maybe they wanted to give people like you another reason to say "hmmmmm.....". Good question, no good answer to this conundrum. Bravo on the question though, it did make me chuckle.

If it hits the chalk it is a fair ball. The foul poles mark the edge of fair territory, and so are considered fair.

firstly, when it hits the chalk on the field, it is FAIR. when it hits the foul pole, youd notice that the foul pole actually starts at that "chalked line" that we now know is FAIR, and goes towards fair territory. this makes hitting the pole a home run.

The foul lines and the foul poles are all in fair territory. Any batted ball striking these in flight is a fair ball, subject to the provisions of the definition of a fair ball in regard to fair and foul territory between home and third base and home and first base.

Now, to expand on what I just said about home and third and home and first: A batted ball striking the foul line between home and first and home and third is not automatically fair. The ball could roll into foul territory between home and first or home and third, where it is then touched or comes to rest, in which case it would be a foul ball.
