1> Spread awareness about population explosion (large families contribut in economic imbalance of the family);
2> Pay taxes so that government can spend a good deal on development.
3> Provide education to the poor;
4> Make them realize their skills and abilities so that they can earn;
5> take care of govenrment property around you. Don' abuse them. (For example trains, buses, roads, drainage systems, electricity, water supply, etc.) This will reduce the developmental infrastrucutre cost on the government and they would be able to concentrate on the poverty issue, and a few other issues.
And a lot more. But for now, each individual can start off with these suggestions. You cannot expect someone else to change things around you. You have to put in your own efforts for that. So get going, be a good citizen...
All the best...

Friend ,
We see, as far as our reading of scriptures of olden days that poverty existed at all times.
so eradication of poverty is a DREAM.
You can try to reduce the gap as much as possible between poor and rich.
Let the rich share their wealth with poor.But don't give money to poor .It is likely to be misused.
Provide the poor with Shelter , Food and Education.
This has been the Slogan of our political leaders for decades....but the poor are on the increase.Because there is no application of what they say.The poor are not getting the benefits intended to them.The middlemen grab the funds.And poor remain Poor.
Richmen make the Laws and Law grinds the Poor....this is a saying I read some where.
Let the poor be given equal opportunities in schools,colleges and universities.Let the fee be waived for the poor.Let them have good education.Because once the Poor are well educated they too get employed and earn something.They do not depend upon others.
In he Rural India we see all the kids and children who should be having mother's care, are going to field with parents for work.If all in the family work, then they get atleast some thing to eat.So whatever plans you plan,if they are hungry or with empty stomach,they will never listen to you.Food is vital.Let all the poor be given a chance to have the food.Then they will listen to you.
A man who is hungry will not listen to lessons of Grammar (that is saying in sanskrit)(Bhubhikkshitaih vyaakaranam na bhujyatey)
So let us aim at narrowing the gap.

Create awareness among the poor to raise from their present status to enjoy better tomorrow on par with 'fortunate others'.
Show them the way how they can use their hidden potententialities and see themselves the wonderful changes in their life.

Give a man a fish - he will eat it and be hungry again tomorrow. Teach him how to catch fish and he will feed two mouths more for ever.
