I met a Filipina in myasianrose, she asks me to help her financially to process her US tourist visa to come and visit me in NYC. I have doubts that Us embassy in Manila will give Visa to someone unless you have at least $10,000 USD in your bank account as guarantee money and a great job in the Philippines. Should I send the money to help her to process USA tourist VISA papers even If I think she will not get it?

Many men on Asian online dating sites whether myasianrose or any other asian dating agencies can have the same concerns when it comes to send money to a woman they meet.

Usually the question is always about sending money to help financially that woman for her VISA expenses. Those men, mostly American guys, think that if they send money to help processing the papers for tourist visa, the Asian woman that they are meeting online can easily come to visit them. (Some Asian women from Singapore and Japan don’t need to get a visa for USA). For people from Philippines, Thailand and China a visa is always necessarily. Those women need a lot of papers and many guarantees to get a USA tourist visa.

I suggest you to call the USA embassy in Manila and ask more info about the eligibility of your Filipina friend before you send anything. Be aware that The Embassy might ask what your relation with that woman is and where she will exactly stay. Beside that, they will ask also if she has enough money in her bank account to afford paying for her expenses during the stay. Many Asian women wants badly to go abroad to get a better job if they have the chance. That’s why some of them are not afraid to use a foreign single man that they meet on any asian dating sites to help them getting the visa. Once they get it and reach to that country they usually learn everything and will just suddenly disappear overstaying their visa (Not all will do that). And you?, You are in big trouble because you are the guarantor.

Basically, it’s not that easy to get USA tourist visa for women in Southeast Asia. If you really want to help her without being disappointed and frustrated just think that it's the same as betting in a casino, there’s never any guarantee that it will work and even if she reach the US no guarantee she will stay with you.

Please don't send her any money. The visa process (even if she uses a lawyer to help) is not very expensive. The visa application is USD 100. And, you do not need USD 10,000 in the bank. Even if you are seeking an F-1 fiancee visa, there is not a set amount of money you have to have in the bank - just be able to show you can support her. But, from your question, it seems she is seeking only a tourist visa to the US and not an F-1. If you really think you like her, go to the Philippines and meet her (and her family).

While she might be a lovely Filipina (my girlfriend is a Filipina who has never asked me for money), chances are she is looking at you like an ATM. There are scams of this sort very common in The Philippines, Thailand, etc.

I would suggest my friend not to do that. I'm not saying not to trust her, but since you believe yourself that you think she might not be able to get approved to get a tourist visa, then don't waste your money to send her money.

How long have you known each other? Are already dating? If not, then why should you finance her to come to the states. If you really want to see her, then you should go to the Philippines and visit her. From then, you'll know if she's really true.

By the way, in order for you to be able to apply for fiance visa, you should be in a relationship with her for 2 or more years. You have to show picture of you and her together in the Philippines before you could apply for fiance.

All you could do is to tell her with respect that what she's suggesting to do is not a good idea since there will be so many requirements to apply for US Visa. The US Embassy will not just ask if you have $10,000 USD in your bank account, they'll also ask for other assets in the Philippines if she has any.

By the name you gave, it sounds like you only met her online. There are a lot of scams online and it seems like you are lured into one. It's such a sad reality that these things happen. I've heard some stories myself like the Western Union (money transfer agency) having a good business because of these scams or the one shown in the webcam is a girl but the one who's typing is someone else who's more articulate. Reasons for these scams may be because of poverty where there is a real need or people are just plain materialistic and wanna keep up with the Joneses. I've also read in the news that a California based journalist came to the Philippines to visit his online friend only to find out that that person do not exist and that there were others who were victimized by the same userid.

In the end, I'd advise you not to give her that money. Getting an application form costs US$100. There is really not a written rule that you need to have a $10K bank account and the consul may not even ask for the bank certification. People applying for visa usually bring bank certification, land titles and other documents only to provide proof that they have reasons to come back to the country such as land ownership, businesses, work, etc.

Looks like you've found one of those desperados looking for a backdoor entry into Uncle Sam's land. Ignore those requests. There are many better ones available if you actually go to the Philippines and try find one. The myasianrose or whatever it is....will NOT get a US visa because DC is well aware of such back-door attempts. Even Americans married to Filipinas cannot get a visa easily. Yes, to just apply for a US visa, there are several rules in place, depending upon the country. So, its really doubtful if this woman can get one on her own merits....and hence those desperate pleas to you. In fact, if you do help her, you might end up in trouble with the law for aiding or abetting illegal migration to US. So, be wiser for the money and effort and IGNORE the requests.

I think the issue of whether or not she will actually get her VISA approved should be the least of your concerns.

Are you sure she is not merely after your money? What guarantee / safe-guards do you have that she will use the money for VISA processing?

I don't really know how well you know her, but I will not easily trust people who asks me for money without any legally-enforceable guarantee. Much less over long distance.

If she just wants to see you, maybe it would be a better idea for you to go visit her.

In simple terms you need to examine your feelings for this lady. If you want to help her, help her. She can get a visa as long as someone like yourself is willing to possibly put a bond up to guarantee her return. I would also examine the US Embassy, Philippines website to see what the financial requirements are for a tourist visa to teh US.

Your gonna have to go there. There's nothing wrong with giving a little help to someone. They're all poor, you know. But be aware that the situation you describe is about the top of the list of scams. I'm not saying your case is a scam but it shows all the signs. Its very unlikely she will be able to get a tourist visa given the fact that she does not have even enough money for the processing of the request. There are other options if you care for this person. But, let me say this....IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU GO THERE AND MEET THIS PERSON BEFORE GIVING ANY SUBSTANTIAL FUNDS. Besides that, while your there you will find other "options" for yourself to be prevailant.
