Just to warn you this will probably be more than 5 so just bear with me.
The Godfather- Amazing story depicting life in NYC for a Sicilian family that is also the most powerful family when it comes to organized crime.
The Godfather 2- Picks up where one left off. See the rise of a young Vito Corleone and the near fall of their family by Michael.
Little Miss Sunshine- Funny, heart-warming film about Olive and the rest of the Hoover family traveling from New Mexico to California to make to a beauty pageant by 3 pm in a VW bus.
V for Vendetta- Action packed film where a man simply known as V, plans to overthrow the British government by blowing up the Parliament.
The Silence of the Lambs- Classic Anthony Hopkins film about the one and only Hannibal Lecter.
Office Space- Anyone with a job can relate to this film. Dealing with a boss that doesn't cut you any slack, working with a fax machine that half of the times doesn't work, and that one co-worker that you know will one day set the building on fire. Hilarious.
American History X- Film about former Neo-Nazi reflecting on his past all while trying to stop his younger brother from making the same mistakes he made. Very deep!
The Green Mile- Outstanding performances by Tom Hanks and Michael Clarke Duncan dealing with life on death row in Louisiana. Directed by the same guy that directed Shawshank Redemption, another movie that would be great in your collection.
Any Martin Scorsese film- You really can't go wrong with one of his films. The Departed (which he won his Oscar for), Goodfellas, and Taxi Driver are all great films that I'd recommend.
Okay, I'll stop. I hope this helps.

Gone With The Wind - the acting is so over the top, the costumes are stunning, rhett butler is sex on legs and it's a good story.
The Life of Brian - My favourite comedy of all time, it's so clever, definately the best thing the Pythons did
The Shining - Just for the acting in it, it seriously scared me though!
The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari - a REALLY old silent movie about a man who has a murderous sleeping monster thing in a trunk, sounds crap but also kind of hypnotises you when you watch it.
Forest Gump - I love this film, it's so touching, just a great film and there's something for everyone in it
Brief Encounter - It's so British, but seriously, probably the best film we've ever made
Moulin Rouge - I love musicals and this is so mad that of course i'm going to love it but even people i know who hate the whole bursting out into song thing think it's great!
La vite e bella (life is beautiful) - so sad, and moving. performances are great and the ending.....
Yeah, sorry it's more than 5 but i wanted to put lots of different genres in, i guess my overall favourite is La vite e bella, it's so underated! Good luck collecting!
