It is better to keep quiet rather than answer questions you don't totally understand and avoid therefore being misinterpreted as I often get in those cases!???

I agree. I was in a situation similar to that yesterday. There was someone I work with and she was trying to tell me something quietly so no one would hear and I wasn't sure what she was saying so I just nodded along and said yes. Now I am totally confused and puzzled about what went on.

I say give it your best shot and then let the questioner know that it's your opinion or best guess. To me, that's better than letting the question go completely unanswered as many on here do. If I totally don't understand the question, I will respond and ask them to re-phrase it.

No, you have a right to give your perspective on a question if it is asked generally of you. It is hard enough in real life to know when someone is sincere or not sometimes let alone in Y/A.. So if they take it the wrong way and you do not mean any wrong, then the ball is in their park..

should be but sometimes the answer to question that you really understand being misinterpreted and get a violation.

I guess so....sometimes questions contain a regional reference that I don't fully understand until I read the other's answers....it's a language barrier thing???

I myself do that, I read the question and respond to something different than what is really asked so yes it would be better.
