Black Sea: :It isn't true that no organism can live in the Black Sea, although it is true that below about 200 feet, it is not hospitable to life. The oxygenated surface waters, less saline (salty) than the Mediterranean, have fish, dolphins, mollusks, sea grass, anemones, plankton, etc. There are several hypotheses regarding the name: (1) ancient assignment of colors to compass directions, black for north, and red for south.
(2) the dark colour of the Black Sea's microalgae-rich deep waters (or because it is/was stormy) (3)the anoxic dead zone about 200 feet below the surface; or because H2S in the deep waters would coat the surface of metals (like sounding lead) black.
Red Sea: there are also many hypotheses regarding the origin of "Red" in Red Sea:
(1) compass direction (south = red)-the historian Herodotus is said to have used both words interchangeably in referring to this sea; (2) seasonal blooms of red cyanobacteria; (3) the color of the surrounding desert and mineral-rich mountains, or the name of local tribe; (4) or--a Hebrew to Greek mistranslation of the Exodus biblical reference which is really the Reed Sea; (5) red corals
