Oh my, that's a hard question, because there are so many great songs out there.
I think my absolute favourite has to be "Your Song" by Elton John.
To me, this is the ultimate love letter, here's a guy who doesn't have money, but still wants to show his partner how much they mean to him, so he writes a song. It's pretty romantic, don't you think?

"Kashmir" by Led Zeppelin.....probably because it's so complex and evokes so many thoughts and emotions when you listen to it. It's rock but with a Middle Eastern feel to it. Jimmy Page is really at his most awesome best (not that I don't think he was incredible on many other songs) on this song with his guitar overdubs and it's breathtaking. Robert Plant's voice is beautiful and his long scream towards the end just shows the power of his voice at that time. They were at the top of their game and this song was the pinnacle!! I love it and always will.

"How To Save A Life" by The Fray
The song is so sad and sweet and has such an amazing story behind it. It is so beautiful and it is the only song that has ever made me cry. It gets to me everytime.
"Look After You" The Fray
Also very sweet with an adorable story behind it. Such a beautiful song, i've been listening to it ever since i got the CD over a year ago.

i must say the ghost of you by my chemical romance.
this is because, on the bright side of this song, you could really feel proud about what they've written, about being honest and true to the ones you love. you struggle to make them feel at ease and not afraid of loss. we lose our loved ones more often than we find them. more or all of these life tragedies are reflected in this song. i for one am not emotional or depressed in any way, it's just that i'm fascinated about the lyrics which i believe were written in a heartfelt surrounding. lyrics are essential in a song, especially if you want to talk about the loss of a loved one or a friend.
as to conclude this answer, i love this song for its lyrics, presentation and meaning.

I prefer ones that are mostly about me. Paul Simon's "The Boxer".
In a clearing stands a Boxer and a Fighter by his Trade
And he carries the reminders,
Of every Glove that's laid him down or cut him `til he cried out.
In his anger and his shame.
"I am leaving, I am leaving". But the Fighter still remains.
