Well, you should first write some really cool or good poems and show them to your family and friends. Then you could look online or in the newspaper for a poetry contest and enter. Also you could get a permit to sell poetry books or post them on a billboard. I hope this helps!

Well there are vast numbers of poets out there.
Modern poets needs to also be self promoters.
You have got to get yourself out there.
For example, many cities have poetry slams or poetry olympics, where you can go and read your stuff, but you had better be a good reader as well as a poet.
Another option is choose the right topic. For example, write poems about steel workers or a region of the world.
Then, what you need, is a whole lot of luck.
