Yeah i know what you mean, for some reason people seem to categorize alot of emo, indie and even alternative rock under Punk music...so it can get a little confusing sometimes and cuz of that many people think that there´s no more good old fashioned actual punk music out there, but there is. NOFX for example are a pure punk band, and i find them to be pretty good. Bands like Good Charlotte and Avril Lavigne are kind of like inspired from Punk so they still have a bit of punk to them but they´re more like punk/pop/rock. Im sorry i cant really think of any other pure punk bands at the moment, but dont worry, there gotta be a couple more out there, that we just havent discovered yet. :)
And this is just my opinion but...if i may say so, i think the reason that there seems to be a decline of actual punk bands is because punk music has become popular, and so the more people want to hear it, the more marketized it gets, you know? So the initial definition of punk music (rebelious and sometimes outsider music) is kind of changed due to its popularity, but thats really not the bands fault, its just that part of our generation has grown up loving that kind of music so its just whats wanted now. So i guess in a some way that is kind of ironic that punk would become popular, but remember the only thing thats important is what a band or any kind of music feels like to you, so if you look past the popularity and all the media, you´ll see there are lots of bands out there who are just playing the way they would even if they werent popular.
And to answer your first question, yes i consider Green Day to be a real punk band, and i think they´re great. :)
But like i said, this is all just my opinion. :)

eco-friendly Day have been around for a protracted time - longer than some people understand i think of. decrease back contained in the day i'd've classed them as punk, yet those days i'd truly bypass with pop-punk. they have replaced plenty for my section...

Yep. Just because they make other forms of music doesn't mean they're not punk at heart. We all have to pay the bills.

prior to dookie they had the attitude but have become commercial sellouts.Punk can mean alot of different bands from the early days to present. My view of real punk, iggy and the stooges, sugar, plasmatics, social distortion,GHB,Ramones.new stuff today dont have that edge or attitude.

i do like green day, but in my opinion they are more "pop-punk"...it`s not really the same type of music as when punk first came on the scene, for example sex pistols, ramones, etc....

I didn't really think of them as 'punk'. I thought they were alternative and I do like some of their music, just not all. Thanks for asking!!!
