I am doing exactly what you described but everyone who tries it dies, no exceptions.

No, I don't think I could do that.
I wouldn't be able to live the rest of my life knowing that more people had to die because I was pursuing my dream.

Most definitely. I believe it was Robert Plant who said "All that lives is born to die". There are many worse ways to die than persuing your life's dream.

It depends. If the people that died doing it died because they weren't doing what they were supposed to, do it. But if it is a really dangerous thing to do i wouldnt do it until it became safer.

depends on what it is, example, being an astronaut is very dangerous but people dream of doing it. The military, very dangerous, but people do it, climbing everest is hard but people do it.
