I have noticed many people that own pets to have a distinct personality where they avoid human beings for companionship and would like their pets company anytime over human beings. Why is that so. Not that i am complaining, just a bit curious.

The more people I meet, the better I like my dog.

I have 3 cats and a dog and just a few friends. (they have pets too, so we understand each other) Humans are too sensitive. Sometimes I don't feel like talking. Humans don't understand that and get offended. Animals are quite content to just be there with you without expecting anything in return. They don't get offended if you push them away. They will come back to you next time without any resentment. People hold grudges. So, I don't think I have a 'problem' with humans, I just prefer animals.

That's a pretty broad generalization. Just because you know 10 or 20 people with pets who enjoy their pet's company over other people's doesn't make the majority of pet owners like that.

I love my animals, that's true. I think that sometimes, I do prefer their company over people's because they sit with me quietly and don't ask or expect anything of me. We sit in companiable silence enjoying each other's company. I've found that lots of people are uncomfortable with silence. But sometimes I just don't want to talk, although it doesn't mean I want to be alone, either.

But there's no substitute for time spent with my husband or my child!

I think these people you speak of out-number the 'others'. lol There is a pet in almost every home around the world!

I think people enjoy pets sooo much because, although they take work, it is very rewarding. You get unconditional love, loyalty, and affection from your animal. Can we say that much about all the humans in our life?? No way! Most people, even the ones close to us, are just pains in our asses.

I can't agree with you on that. I will say there are those who seem to be that way.. and maybe it is more of a comfort issue. Animals do not "judge" or talk back, they are always (most anyway) good for comfort, and a snuggle. Pets tend to be much easier to love.
On the other hand I have met plenty of people who do not like animals and have found a high percentage of them to be more standoffish with other people.

Because we have been abused in one way or another by humanity most of our lives, some leaving some very deep scars, and our pets love us unconditionally. I'll take my dogs over people ANY day!!! Good question!!!

This seems to be a disturbing trend.I think it has to do with the fact that people are not used to one another anymore because of all this Internet chatting.Hell, parents don't let their children out to socialize and play anymore. When my grand kids come here in the summer,i have to force them to go out and play with the kids next door.
I think the first answerer missed the point.

I know lots of people with pets and they all have lots of human friends as well so that statement in my eyes is simply not true.

They can tell their pet ANYTHING without any added problems...they can't always do that with humans.
