it means (2x+1)=0
so x=-1/2

Many answers already given but I just wanted add some solidity.

If we have the equation (2x+1)/(x+4) = 0 and we want to solve for x, one of the first steps we normally take is to move all of the x's out of the denominator, since without doing this, we can never isolate our x.

If you multiply both sides by the denominator of the left side, we are left with simply 2x+1 = 0. It's kinda sneaky that way, because the whole time nothing else mattered except for the numerator, and I assume you can solve for x from there.

2x+1 / x+4 = 0
So 2x +1 = 0
Becoz when x +4 multiple to 0 is = o
So, 2x+1 = 0
2x = -1
x =1/2

The denominator (x+4) cannot be equal to 0, since y/0 is undefined, so x cannot be -4 Solve for x in the numerator: 2x + 1 = 0, 2x = -1, x = -1/2
Done.

either ( 2x +1 ) = 0 subtract 1
2x +1 -1 = 0 - 1
2x = -1 divide by 2
x = -1/2

or ( x + 4 ) = 0

x + 4 = 0 subtract 4
x+4-4 = 0-4
x = -4

anser is -1/2 , -4
that depends on fact that if XY = 0 EITHER X = 0 OR Y = 0

(2x + 1) / (x + 4) = 0

x + 4(2x + 1) / x + 4 = x + 4(0)

2x + 1 = 0

2x + 1 - 1 = 0 - 1

2x = - 1

2x / 2 = - 1/2

x = - 1/2

x = - 0.5

x=-0.5

and x can never be -4 because if it is, when you put back to the original equation and you will get the denominator as 0. any number can never be divided by 0.

2x/(x+4) + 1/(x+4) =0
2x/(x+4) = - 1/(x+4)
As denominators x+4 are same so we can eliminate them
2x= -1
x=( -1/2)

This is not a valid equation. No rational number divided by another equals zero.

You have to find what 1 plus what gives you 2.It's 1,so x equals 1.Then what is 4 plus 0,4 so x equals 4.
