it's either becoz u dun want e pple around u to worry about u, or u dun want pple to think u r weak. for me, at times like this, i'd forced a smile out of me as well, coz it's both of e above, n also becoz, im always foolishly trying to convince myself, if i dun think about it, it'll go away. which is wrong, of coz i know, but it's e easiest way out.

Friend ,

It depends where you are at that particular time.

If you really want to weep...PLEASE WEEP AND LET ALL THAT IS INSIDE GO OUT...you will be free and happy or at least a little bit relaxed and your mind works.

If you are in a crowd, among elite people, then your pride, ego and position makes you not to weep, and put a false smile on the face. You are afraid that people will think low about you, that's why you smile(artificially).Try to be natural.

Smile when you are really happy, weep when you are sad.It relieves your tension.

Hope my answer helps you.

Good luck.

Society, inner pride, and simply the fact that its just not the 'in-thing'. The other 'good' things would be not wanting to let your loved ones know your sad, and that "hiding tears for your happiness" stuff.
All said and done, at the end of the day, whether we like it or not, its typical human nature; one in which everybody but us gets a chance to decide on ^_^

We smile first, then hide in a room and weep.

It comes down to good social skills. Generally, people don't want to be confronted with other people's problems because everyone has their own. It is how we all manage to function on a day-to-day basis - not having to deal with other people's sh*t. Imagine if when you walked out your door all you heared from everyone was their grievances? Your very best friend or sister/brother is someone who can cope with your gripes, but it's not cool to lay it on the check-out chic or the bottle shop attendant!

many answers are good and realistic. We only want to hide the outburst and we are a bit delicate about our being uncontrollable. It is out of self-pity that we smear a smile on our face

That's life friend. At times things just don't work out our way. Look at the positive side. Facing such situations require a lot of courage and tolerance. It enhances your inner strength.

All the best...

Because under such an emotional pressure our brain gets confused and sends smile- signals instead of cry-signals!
