I realize that both you and your daughter are incredibly anxious about this situation, but your question is impossible to answer. There are too many variables, such as:

How highly ranked is the program?
How many other programs did each accepted candidate apply to?
How competitive are the packages offered by that program?(full tuition remission? how large is the stipend?)
What personal factors will each accepted student weigh in accepting or declining offers (location, spousal employment, etc.)?

April 15th is the guideline provided by the Council on Graduate Education for graduate programs to notify applicants of acceptance/rejection. She will hear by then.

6 out of 29 is pretty good. Even when they accept the other 5 people in front of her, they could still decline as well. I have been accepted to 6 grad schools, so I will have to decline at 5...declining is pretty common, but not as common at really good schools. If this is a top 10 school, I would say not many people are going to decline. However, if it's just a "good school" then your daughter has a really good shot. Don't worry just yet...your daughter has a pretty good place on the waitlist, and my gut says that she will probably get in...unless this is Harvard we're talking about. :-) Good luck!

i'm not american so i dont really know how the system works
over here in the uk you put down 3 schools which you would like your child to go to (1. the one you most want them to go to 3. being the least) then you get a letter saying which of the 3 schools they got in to.

HOWEVER

if your'e daughter truly wants to go to this school and has the dedication, motivations and determination to do so then am sure theres an stong chance

6 out of 29 is pretty average... its more weak than possitive however it also depends on how many children apply to attend the school...how long the school waiting list is...

if your daughter does not get into the school(touch wood it doesnt happen) then i'm sure there will be reasons (not necessarily to do with your child) you can always write letters to the school (mainly goverment and education departments) about the chance. if your daughter does get in i hope she succeeds well
