I have always wondered why there can be organizations, television stations, magazines, ect. exclusively for African Americans, i.e., NAACP, Eboney, BET, and people don't see a problem with it. When there are organizations that don't show enough African Americans, it is considered racist. I personally don't care, just curious about what appears to be a double standard.

Good question, i think i've heard it before. Anyway, It doesn't bother me either, but i can take a shot at it. First and foremost the NAACP isn't just for African americans (yes, i know the CP stands for colored people) it's for all minorities. Also the NAACP began in a time when segregation and all that other mess was ridiculous so in a sense it was needed, i think that organization started after the springfield riot. (hey, one side had the KKK, later we had the NAACP, so what?) As far as Ebony, BET.....I know there's magaines that's geared towards african americans (hype hair, jet, vibe) however, i sometimes feel those are needed too. I mean c'mon its not often i pick up Seventeen and see hair tips that are actually worth two cents for black hair (african americans cant use 1/2 those products lol). Another thing i notice in those magazines is the problem with fashion. Its so funny when they have articles that try to match outfits with body types they'll throw maybe 4 or 5 body types but i don't see anything for a girl w/ a body like a coca cola bottle lol, make up too, they'll have that ONE black girl on the page lol, how about what shades look nice on ALL the different african american (hey, maybe even native american, hispanic, etc.) complexions/skin types. Face it, in those magazines african americans are included which is nice but it really doesn't help lol so we turn to magazines that understand where we're coming from(and if you noticed this is from a woman's perspective, sorry) and theres tons of magazine titles that outweigh "african american magazines" I live in atlanta, tons of black people, and I don't see many reading Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Elle and what other stuff is out there (see, i don't even know the titles lol) Even those little music magazines there was Tiger Beat so then later Right On! was produced (both made from the same company just 2 different styles of music). And don't act like there isn't MTV, blacks and white can watch mtv but seriously, which audience is larger?? As said before, I really don't care, but great question! Hope I helped

It is reverse discrimination, and it's going to be here for a long time. Seems to keep "them" happy and doesn't hurt anything.
