when i insert my memory card adapter into the side to upload my photos from my camera, i go to my computer but it does not show up.how do i get to look at the photos stored on the memeory card

It's an external memory card reader?
Try plugging it into a different place, i.e. if its a USB try finding a different one on your laptop, that sometimes helps.
When looking for it in "my computer" try pressing F5 a few times, this refreshes the page, windows can sometimes fail to do this and show you it not being there when it actually is.
Has it worked before?, possibly damage to the external reader.
If your referring to Sony ms pro duo memory, with a ms pro normal adaptor. And your laptop has inbuilt reader for the ms pro, try restarting the pc, try using the F5 thing said above too.
And check if your inserting it all the way, normally I would guess it goes in until it clicks, like in most digital cameras using ms pro stick.

check whether the os has the drivers for your camera. if not install it from the cd available with camera.
Or else you can browse your photos with the data cable available with your camera.

Double click My Computer in the Start Menu, and you should it there: Memory Stick

Make sure you installed whatever software/drivers came with your camera.
