Do this , go out and buy a slide. When your fingers are hurting play the slide and change the tuning around on the slide so you learn to play a few styles.

I've been more... playing enthusiastically. My fingertips may spontaneously begin to bleed... and my throat is very sore... it's been a VERY good night. Stop if you must. The music ceases never...
