A day to be proud of, John S, with our gratitude. I've read enough to hold that in my heart!

(*laughter*) I'm proud of my country. I'm not always proud of my elected leaders. Luckily, they have a limited shelf-life. Regretfully, too many seem to come from the same idiot-factory, so it's hard to tell when you've made a change.

Why am I proud? I'm proud because I think our intentions, as a people, are good and meant to be benign. Sometimes in our naivete, we run straight off the track and screw up royally, but I believe it's with the best of intentions.

I love my country. I love it from the deep, cold blue of the Pacific Ocean to the warm, gray blue of the Atlantic. I love it from the depths of the Grand Canyon, to the tops of the Alaskan mountains. I love the forests of pine, the expanse of grassland, the high deserts, and steaming swamps.

I find the people exaspertating, annoying, idiotic, and more often than not, kind, patient and friendly. They can be as diverse as the rest of the planet in one city, or as entrenched as when the town was first built.

Yup. I'm proud of America. I can also be disgusted and embarassed, but you always have to take the good with the bad. No one is ever perfect.

I am from the U.S.A. I think this is a interesting question; because, it would be strange, to be proud of being born in a particular place. You had no control of were you were born. I can say I am proud of some of the things my country has done, but if I claimed some pride for those actions, which I had no part in, it would be false pride.

Come on - wasn't that said in the 1860's or thereabouts? To be English then was plentyful for some - and it wasn't centred on London, hence it's power. It is now 2007, and like it or not, despite the usual propaganda about how the capital outshines everywhere else (in the world), pride is the last thing I, and I suspect others (be they from the South East or elsewhere in England) think about.

I am Canadian, among other nationalities. I think this is the beauty of being Canadian. We are not held down by one strict identity. Instead we consist of a mosaic of identities, which celebrate and appreciate the differences, but are held together by this undefinable, almost imperceptible thing which makes us Canadian. Would I choose to be anything else? I am already everything and still a Canadian. I don't think you can get any better than that.

I'm an American, and proud to be an American.
But if I were from another country, I'm sure I'd be proud to be that nationality.
I'm also from Texas, and typical Texan at that, very proud to be a Texan.
