I want to make this clear....... NO engine manufacturer recommends NON detergent 30 weight.... except maybe in a water pump...
They recommend a HD-30 (high detergent) 30 weight above 40 degrees Fahrenheit... 5w-30 or 10w-30 below..
OR 5w-30 or 10w-30 synthetic all year round...

10w-40 is fine... even I use it in a couple, can use 5w-40 or 15w-40... just make sure you don't try to use a 15w-40 or 10w-40 in extreme cold temps... or hd-30...

stick with 5w-30 in the winter time (or 5w-30 synthetic all year round) and change it every 25 hours of course.

Use the oil recommended by the engine manufacturer. They all have websites that will give you that information. Most one cylinder gasoline engines use straight SAE 30 non-detergent oil, however the 10w-40 won't do any noticeable damage.

You're supposed to use straight 30 weight is small 4 cycle engines. It's non-detergent. It just says 30W on the label, no 10W in front of it.

In general, no. Most petrol mowers require 30W. Do you not have your mowers handbook? It will state in there which oil you should use, obvious I know, however, if you haven't you will probably find the information on the manufacturer's web site.

There is usually a label where you put the oil in which tells you the right grade to use. I would use what is recommended for your machine.

If you have a four stroke engine then yes as engine lubrication but if your motor is two stroke then you need to mix petrol with two stroke oil.
