I think that it depends on the person. Maybe there are those perfectly happy depending on their husbands to take care of them and provide for them and love them. It would be nice if we all could stand on our own two feet, but you can't generalize anyone into just one category.
You are leaving out those with handicaps. What about those with severe autism. There are plenty who are dependant on someone else, who are still happy. Your statement is too much of a generalization.
It could also be said that a truly independant person is never happy as well. Shouldn't we all learn to trust others but also to do things for ourselves? That means we should be both dependant and independant in order to be healthy.

I think independent people are happier but I wouldn't say that a dependent person is never happy. It depends a lot on the situation causing the person to be dependent on someone else. Some people I guess are more comfortable being dependent on someone else for several reasons. I still must say that having a feeling of independence and knowing that you can take care of yourself by yourself is a feeling of strength and accomplishment that every adult should experience at some point in their lives. Sometimes, you can't help but be dependent on another person. For instance, my wife and I are both disabled, so we depend a lot on each other. That can't be helped and we've learned to appreciate the fact that we have each other and aren't alone going through this.

Good question. I don't believe that a dependent person is NEVER happy but I think that there are many times when they question where their independence went as well as asking many "what if" types of questions. Then again some people thrive on being dependent on others and are only happy when they find themselves in situations of dependancy - is this normal or abnormal? That is why it is such a great question.

A dependent person is handicapped to become fully happy by a personality disorder called Dependent Personality Disorder. They find comfort and security in a dependent relationship, but that causes possible problems in the long run.

Sometimes dependence on something or someone you love makes you happy. But dependence on something or someone you do not love not only makes you unhappy, but may also make you fee helpless. However, total independence does not always mean happinness. Sometimes being independent means being alone or being away. This, generally speaking, is against the human nature.
Overall, it all depends on the context of the dependence or independence.

A dependent person is like a person begging on the street. His happiness depends on whether people are willing to give him what he wants. How can a beggar be happy?

depends whether the dependent person enjoys being dependent. It might look like the person is not happy on the perspective of one who enjoys being independent....but it may not be so..after all we are all dependent on someone directly or indirectly and therefore if this were true then we will all be very unhappy people..

if you depend on people all your life, you can never do anything for your self- which is quite sad because your life is given to you so YOU can live it yourself. But being to independant is bad as well as you feel like you are alone.

True...the old saying "if you want it done right do it yourself" explains why this is true. Not living in your own mind the provider can never possibly know what you really want. The expectation is never what is provided.
