I have been with my boyfriend for 5 years, we moved down to London to get on with our lives, make them better and be together. The problem is that I am now feeling that I need some space. We are supposed to be moving into a new flat next weekend and we also have another flatmate in tow.
I really want some time to just live my life for a while and reassess what I want to do and where I want to be, but at the same time I really dont want to lose him cos I care about him a great deal. i also dont know if I can handle upsetting him for something that might be just a phase. Advice?

I think that you should talk with your boyfriend and explain to him how it is that you feel and let him know that although you need some time to think it is not like you would be leaving him but you just need time since you made a big step and need to adjust so that you would know where you should begin . Re assure him that you would be there for him but just need some time .

Are you sure it isn't that you just don't want to be alone....you want your space, but you want him to wait patiently until you figure out what's going on with yourself? That's really unfair and you know it. Here is how I see it. There are many people out there that we are compatible with, not just one true soul mate, that's just sappy and overly romantic and not practical thinking. So, be true to yourself, tell your bf that you need some space, that you don't know what the outcome will be, and let it be HIS decision, and then make the best of your space without looking back. I think it would be much worse if you moved in, stayed with him and always regretted NOT having your space, and then you would be resentful too. Perhaps he is just not a good match for you?

Probably is just a phase...this time of year it is not surprising. Take 3 days off by yourself someplace away from everything and do a lot of head clearing. Usually if you are gone for this amount of time you will miss the person you needed the space from. If not, then...

Does your family live in london? If not can u take time off work?
If you can just tell him you are just going to see your family for a few weeks, because you need to spend some time with them and just hang out. Make it sound like you need to spend time with them alone. And hopefuly he want see a reason to come.

I dont know, thats just a suggestion..

You need your space, and if you don't get it, you'll regret it. If you feel like this now, it will only get worse.

You don't have to lose him. Just tell him what you like, so that nothing unexpected will happen to your relationship.
