The word "robot" comes from the Czech word for "work" or "labor".

The word robot comes from the word robota meaning "drudgery", "forced labor" in literary Czech and "work", "labor" in literary Slovak.

It was first used by Karel Capek in his play "Rossum's Universal Robots" in 1921, but Karel says it was his brother Josef who originated the term.

its not an acronym it was taken from the word for work in (I think) polish
