The more you answer in a particular category, and the more Best Answers you get (not the percentage) the more likely you are to get a "top contributor" badge next to your name, up to 3 categories. Levels, and points have nothing to do with it. I have it for answering in Yahoo 360 and Yahoo Answers categories, neither of which am I on the leaderboard, but I have been answering alot of questions in these categories recently. I do lead the category DIY and I do not have "top contributor" for that category, but I haven't answered much in that one for a while.

You can go into Yahoo answers blog and it gives all the details on how this is done. But I think it is a crock. I think they give it to the answerer's who THEY like. I have a lot of answers that I myself have given here in the polls and surveys section. I'd like to think I give mostly good quality answers but I have not received this top contributor thing. But for EVERY top contributor what I have noticed is the amount of questions they have answered in a weeks time. This in itself leads me to believe that this thingy is awarded by how many questions you answer and not necessarily the quality.

You have to answer alot of questions in one particular category, and earn best answer. Your answers should be helpful, and honest. Then you'll earn 10 points after 10 points after 10 points all the time if you put your heartand time into answering questions. It'll make that person feel better. Thats what makes a top contributer.
