Used the mp3 disc,but windows says the disc is not necessary.

i needed windows 2000 for my mp3 player to work,

You'll need a driver for win98 or older. Later versions of windows have most common ones built in. Visit the mp3 manufactuers website and you should be able to download one

Maybe it's because MP3 didn't exist when you bought Windows 98.

Try going to the company's website and obtaining drivers for the player. Or just upgrade to xp. The problem will fix itself,but vista does it much better than xp. You could also try to plug it into your USB port and the your PC identify it for you. But an upgrade to a newer OS would be better.

You would most likely need to install the drivers if it is windows 98, try the manufactures website for more support.

upgrade to ubuntu linux...
win98 is only a worm trap these days and is bad for the internet.

It can support some USBMS drives if the drivers are installed, but typically you need windows 2000 as a minimum.

acer 330mp3 player may only be compatible with xp, or even worse vista
