You can use ratio to solve this question:
F:S
4:3

So,
4 units --> 1 1/2 kg of fruit
1 unit ---> 0.375 kg
3 units --> 1.125 kg

Ans: 1.125 kg of sugar should be added.

This is a ratio and proportion problem.

The ratio of fruits to sugar in the jam is 4:3.

Now for this problem, you will need to find the amount of sugar to be added if you have 1 and 1/2 kg of jam.

So, since the ratios should be equal(let the amount of sugar needed be x):

4:3=1.5:x

Converting to fraction form:

4/3=1.5/x

Cross multiplying:

4x=4.5

x=4.5/4 or x=1.125 or 1 and 1/8 kg of sugar. (Ans.)

In words for every 4 of fruit theres 3 sugar. So the amount of sugar is 3/4 the amount of fruit. Thus:

1.5*3/4

=1.125kg of sugar
