I'm a truckdriver, and have slain millions of insects in the course of my travels. Usually I am unaffected. But tonight, a large one splatted across the widndshild, and when I saw the guts and spew spread out, I felt a deep sense of guilt. What's happening? Is this a real sentiment, based upon wrongdoing? Do grasshoppers have a soul? Am I overly sensitive?

No, grasshoppers do not have a soul. And no, you have no reason to feel guilty. Who doesn't kill bugs on their windshield? Now, if you were deliberately, going through fields looking for insects to trample, I'd say you might have a problem. But don't lose sleep over things you can't avoid.

...specific. i might kill an insect if i observed it. i might seek for bugs to kill for the hell of it. in my eyes, bugs smaller than a beetle have no souls, so i smush them. the bigger ones get extra mercy cuz while u flick one they get on their backs and conflict and u sense undesirable so u help him out and watch the place he is going until he sees ur shadow and fly's away different than SPIDERS spiders get shot on sight. actually, i see one spider, i grab a bb gun and hunt for all of them around and out of doors the homestead. i hate them!

One day there was a cricket in our bathroom and my little sister demanded that I kill it. I didn't want to and when I trod on it it started squeaking like it was crying and ran away. I didn't want to let it die in pain so i trod on it harder to put it out of its misery. It made me feel sad :(
