If anyone has enough time to watch day time TV please help me out with this question. TV is supposed to interesting and entertaining, but I find Talk Shows like Trisha, Ricki Lake and Jeremy Kyle are a little tragic. Their problems seem to be turned into scandels. I think that these shows exploit people, who sometimes have very serious problems that need to be addressed by experts instead of an audience who often greer and laugh at the people who need help. I know these people want to be on TV, and 'air their dirty laundry', but is it really fair to have them publicly disgraced.

So I wanted to help is this car crash TV for public entertainment, or is it helping people to discover and help their problem on a wide national scale. People what do you think ???

Ok, but apart from 15 min of fame, what do they gain if everyone thinks that these people are foolish?

i cant stand talk shows especially the ' reality ones' which ironically arent real at all as they are rehearsed, the questions are edited to make sure the right amount of drama is exacted from the participants. the jeremy 'dna' kyle show is a prime example as are the others...

lets look at the required format:

THE SHOW NEEDS:

1. a family at war, better if pregnancy is involved or other partners
2. if grannies purse has been robbed or kiddies xmas presents sold to support addiction[s] fantastic!!
3. even better if participants fought in hotel the night before the show
4. are there other kids involved from previous partners? YES...then thats a dream...but hold on....the father of all these kids isnt working....YEHOO...!!!!!

Jeremy thinks....'this will get the audience on my side. I'll use the killer line....'

he directs this to the 'daddy' sitting on the stage:
'then me and everyone throughout the whole country are paying for your children and for you to spend all day watching trashy telly, except this show, and be in the bookies...' 'You are a disgrace...........'

Great stuff eh?

lets not forget the lie detectors and DNA reults.........

it drives me daft.

what sort of society are we creating that encourages people to air their dirty laundry on tv?

Is the 15 mins of fame worth a life of potential shame?
is the promise of a free train trip , cheap beer and dried sandwiches too much to resist or is it simply that these people are so desperate they cant see what they are getting into or is it the old story....
i loved organising the wedding it was great fun its a shame i had to go through with the ceremony?

we are all responsible. if we dont want it lets say so...if we say nothing then we are allowing the media to dictate what we watch not only now but in the future. does anyone want to start a pressure group to change this drivel?

yes they exploit people but those people are willing to be exploited. no-one goes on these shows without knowing what they are letting themselves in for.

every time jezza does one of those links asking people do you have a scandel in your life that you you want to talk about on national telly and be laughed at and have me have a go at you-i laugh. My family is so F***ed up we could give him a whole series!!!

im not sure how much they help others watching or even the people on the show, but its great entertainment when you've just dropped the kids at school!!!

What else would cheer you up if you were stuck in bed off work with the flu??????

Purely on tv to make people laugh and feel better about their own lives because nobody could really want to air their dirty laundry in public!!!!

Shows like Maury are no good but if it's addressing real issues like some of the more mature talk shows have then it's okay. Ricky, Jenny, Maury, and Jerry are considered the immature talk shows

I completely agree. Talk show just exploit peoples issues instead of actually helping them. Even Dr. Phil's show has turned into an exploitive circus. I used to watch it because he would actually try to help his guests, and focused on solutions to everyday problems, now all he does is focus on the guests problem, and spends half the show arguing with them about what they said , and just grills his guests and makes them look bad for shock value. Shows like Maury just make me sick. "And the baby's Daddy is..."

The day timers are a different species to those seeking communion after the watershed.

The only advice I would dole out is dont think.

Have you ever had a evagelist stage his prom speech on your time? Its like trying to rest youre entire being from a rusted bear trap left in the woods.

I think that these programmes are completely tragic and a waste of time. (I am sure they must be staged). It may make some peoples day seeing these type of programmes if only to reassure them that their dysfunctional life and family is not as bad as the one on the TV. In my opinion they should all be banned!

If they really wanted help, they would seek help privately. How anyone can say going on a TV show and talking about their most intimate problems is their "last hope" is beyond me.
